The Community Ambassador - Full-Time

The Community Ambassador is a full-time position working in the Informal Mental Health Supports program. The Community Ambassador role is to engage with community members, leaders and business in order to secure their participation in activities sponsored by the project to uplift community wellbeing. The Ambassador will identify and engage businesses as partners in the project to promote normalize talking about mental wellness.  Business locations will display materials provided by the program. The Ambassador will also connect with community members and families to advertise events, provide resources and information related to mental health. The Hill District of Pittsburgh is the primary community of interest, but activities may also occur in other areas of Allegheny County. The overall goal of the Informal Mental Health Program is to bring awareness and information to the community about mental health, to create programs and events that uplift the community well- being, and to be a bridge to assist individuals in accessing mental health services whenever they are needed. 

What will I do?

  • Conduct 20 hours / week of street level outreach to businesses, individuals, and families to engage them in the promotion of emotional well-being.

  • Work closely with the Wellness Coordinator to create and hold events in the community that encourage wellness. 

  • Provide basic information about mental health and well-being to individuals, families, and groups.

  • Distribute informational materials and resources to community members. 

  • Refer individuals who desire to be screened for or supported in receiving MH treatment.

  • Distribute surveys and/or interview community members to elicit pertinent information.

  • Document contacts and information into consumer database.

  • Coordinate with other providers, schools, and services to positively impact the community.

  • Participate in ongoing training, building knowledge and expertise especially in the areas of mental health, family, and community wellness. 

Experience / Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Some college in social work, business administration, education, or health related field preferred

  • 2-3 years of Community Engagement Experience

  • Ability to use motivational interviewing techniques

  • Strong public speaking skills

  • Ability to work well with people of diverse social, cultural, and economic backgrounds

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills with an attention to detail

  • Act 33, 34, FBI clearances required

  • Valid PA driver’s license, clean driving record, insurance and registration required
     

Salary Range: $40,000- $42,000
