COMMUNITY AMBASSADOR - Informal Mental Health Supports

The Community Ambassador will engage with community members, leaders, and businesses to secure participation in activities sponsored by the project to uplift community wellbeing for the Informal Mental Health Supports Program. The goal of this program is to bring awareness and information to the community about mental health, to create programs and events that uplift the community well-being, and to be a bridge to assist individuals in assessing mental health services whenever they are needed.

 

This full-time position with Macedonia Family and Community Enrichment Center is a professional position working with businesses and the community to normalize talking about mental wellness. The Community Ambassador will also promote events and provide resources and information related to mental health. The Hill District of Pittsburgh is the primary community of interest, but efforts may also occur in other areas of Allegheny County.

 

WHAT WILL I DO?

​

  • Conduct a minimum of 20 hours of street outreach per week to businesses, individuals, and families to engage them in the promotion of emotional well-being.

  • Work closely with the Wellness Coordinator to create and hold events in the community that encourage wellness.

  • Provide basic information about mental health and well-being to individuals, families, and groups.

  • Distribute informational materials and resources to community members.

  • Refer individuals who desire to be screened for or supported in receiving MH treatment.

  • Distribute surveys and/or interview community members to elicit pertinent information.

  • Document contacts and information into consumer database.

  • Coordinate with other providers, schools, and services to positively impact the community.

  • Participate in ongoing training, building knowledge and expertise especially in the areas of mental health, family, and community wellness.

 

EXPERIENCE/MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required, some college course in social work, business administration, education, health, or related field preferred

  • 2-3 years’ community engagement experience

  • Demonstrated ability to use motivational interviewing techniques

  • Ability to work well with people of diverse social, cultural, and economic backgrounds

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

  • Excellent communication/public speaking ability

  • Organizational skills, along with detail-orientation

  • Act 33, 34 and FBI clearances required

  • Valid PA driver’s license, clean driving record, insurance and registration required


SALARY:

$43,000/annual

All positions require satisfactory results of a background check and drug screen, as well as Act 33/34 and FBI fingerprint clearances. All employees will be subject to a probationary period of no less than 180 calendar days.

 

Because Macedonia FACE serves medically vulnerable consumers COVID-19 vaccination is required. Proof of vaccination is required within 45 days of hire. The company will consider accommodations for disability and religious-based reasons.
